As part of the Angola 2025 Plan set by the Angolan government, aimed at increasing electrification rates using environmentally friendly energy sources, over one million people in 60 communes across Angola will benefit from electricity from the public grid. Continuing the electrification efforts in Angola, an event for the consignment and groundbreaking of the Rural Electrification Project in the Moxico Province took place in Luau Municipality on Thursday, November 16th. The ceremony, presided over by the Minister of Energy and Water, included the Provincial Governor, Ernesto Muangala, as well as ambassadors from the Republic of Portugal, Francisco Alegre, and the Federal Republic of Germany, Stefan Traumann, along with representatives from the renewable energy sector, the Vice Provincial Governor, and senior officials from the energy sector, DNNER, PRODE, ENDE, and the Project Sponsor, renowned musician Matias Damásio.

Regarding the design and development, engineering project, construction of hybrids and photovoltaic generation, with storage system using lithium-ion batteries and the expansion of the electricity grid with new distribution networks, totaling 12 locations, will enable the country to have cleaner and cheaper energy, expecting to reach around 59,000 households with household connections, using a prepayment system, benefiting over 370,000 people.
In Luau, it is expected to benefit approximately 59,370 people from this important project. Additionally, a photovoltaic park will be built with 55,500 solar panels, with a production capacity of 58MWp.
The Luau Rural Electrification Project is budgeted at over €1,027,587,914.00, with completion expected within three years (36 months) from the date of the contract signing between both parties.
At the end of the event, the minister visited the municipality of Luena to assess the progress of the implementation of the photovoltaic park in the city center (Luena), which is at a 95% completion rate in terms of physical structure and will have a capacity of 26.906 MWdc.
