On November 15th, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo took part in the XV National Ordinary Congress of the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM), where she highlighted the unity among its members and her own initiative. The former Chief of Government of Mexico City voiced her backing for the involvement of diverse societal sectors in anticipation of the 2024 elections.
During the gathering, Sheinbaum stressed the significance of ensuring the welfare of workers, as it directly correlates with the nation’s prosperity, a sentiment that received applause from the attendees. Furthermore, they rallied around her in the days leading up to her official registration as a pre-candidate for the presidency.
Sheinbaum also administered the oath to the inaugural Labor Committees of CATEM‘s Fourth Transformation Defense, which are set to be established in a quantity of 10,000. These committees aim to secure dignified lives for workers, requiring the cooperation of entrepreneurs who have endorsed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s motto of “For the good of all, first the poor”.
Senator and former presidential hopeful Ricardo Monreal, who has aligned himself with Sheinbaum’s initiative, was present at the congress. Monreal echoed Sheinbaum’s plea to foster positive relations with workers to ensure enhanced labor rights.
Pedro Haces Barba, Senator and General Secretary of CATEM, underscored the current moment’s significance in the country and affirmed his support for Sheinbaum to carry forward with the Fourth Transformation.
The XV National Ordinary Congress of CATEM also saw the attendance of Morena’s president, Mario Delgado Carrillo, and numerous governors, such as Mara Ledezma, Marina del Pilar Ávila, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, Miguel Navarro, and Sergio Salomón.
Apart from their participation in the CATEM congress, both Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Mario Delgado Carrillo took to social media to announce their leadership of a meeting with the nine candidates chosen by the party for various federal positions. This inaugural meeting aimed to bolster the Morena movement in readiness for the elections on June 2nd.
