Certificate Delivery Ceremony for the Demining of the Area along the 400 kV Huambo – Lubango Transmission Line

On June 7, 2024, a ceremony was held in the city of Lubango, located in the province of Huíla, to deliver the certificate for the demined area along the 400 kV Huambo – Lubango electricity transmission line.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges; the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade; the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos; the Vice-Governor of both Huíla and Huambo; and the representative of the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé, along with other officials from both ministries and invited guests.

During the ceremony, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Energy and Water for their dedication, which made this event possible, and underscored the significance of the occasion. Minister João Baptista Borges also expressed his appreciation for Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade’s efforts, which were crucial to the success of the ceremony. He further emphasized the importance of demining in advancing the project.

The Minister highlighted that the primary objective is to boost energy capacity to meet regional demands. He commended the demining work, noting its critical role in the success of various electrification projects across the country. Additionally, the Minister pointed out that the Huambo to Lubango transmission line project will generate numerous job opportunities for young people, a factor he deemed highly significant.

The event also featured the symbolic presentation of a vehicle to the demining team on-site.

It’s worth noting that the construction of the 400 kV Huambo-Lubango Electricity Transmission Line will be carried out in two phases, spanning a total length of 343 km.
