MIT Student Condemned Genocide — So ADL Chief Said She Helped Cause Boulder Attack
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In a recent article published by The Intercept, it was reported that Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), falsely accused graduating students and popular streamer Hasan Piker of spreading antisemitic lies. Greenblatt went on to call on former President Donald Trump to stop them, claiming that their actions could lead to violence against the Jewish community. However, these accusations have been met with widespread criticism and condemnation.

The controversy began when a group of graduating students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) decided to use their commencement speech to speak out against the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. In their speech, the students called for an end to the violence and oppression faced by Palestinians and urged their fellow graduates to take action against it. This powerful message of solidarity and justice was met with a standing ovation from the audience.

However, Greenblatt took issue with the students’ speech and accused them of spreading antisemitic lies. He also singled out Hasan Piker, a popular streamer known for his political commentary, for his support of the students’ message. In a tweet, Greenblatt wrote, “This is not just about free speech, it’s about spreading hate and lies that can lead to violence against Jews. @hasanthehun and others like him must be stopped.”

These accusations by Greenblatt have been met with widespread backlash, with many pointing out the hypocrisy of the ADL’s stance. The ADL, an organization that claims to fight against hate and discrimination, is now being accused of silencing and attacking those who speak out against injustice and oppression. Many have also pointed out that Greenblatt’s call for Trump to stop the students and Piker is a dangerous and authoritarian move, especially considering Trump’s history of targeting and inciting violence against marginalized communities.

The ADL’s actions have also been condemned by the very students they accused of spreading antisemitic lies. In a statement, the MIT students said, “We stand by our message of solidarity with the Palestinian people and reject any attempts to label it as antisemitic. We will not be silenced by false accusations and attempts to discredit our message.”

The controversy surrounding Greenblatt’s accusations has only intensified in the wake of the tragic shooting in Boulder, Colorado, where a gunman killed 10 people at a grocery store. In a shocking and baseless statement, Greenblatt suggested that the students’ speech and Piker’s support of it somehow contributed to the shooting. He wrote, “The Boulder shooter was motivated by the same kind of hate and lies that @hasanthehun and others like him spread. They may not have pulled the trigger, but they helped cause this attack.”

This statement by Greenblatt has been met with widespread outrage and condemnation. Many have pointed out the dangerous and irresponsible nature of his words, which not only deflect from the real issues at hand but also serve to further demonize and silence marginalized communities.

It is clear that Greenblatt’s accusations are not only false but also harmful and divisive. By labeling any criticism of Israel’s actions as antisemitic, the ADL is silencing and attacking those who speak out against injustice and oppression. This is not only a disservice to the Palestinian people but also to the Jewish community, who are not a monolithic group and have a diverse range of opinions on the issue.

In the face of such baseless accusations, it is important to stand in solidarity with those who are speaking out against injustice and oppression. As the MIT students said in their statement, “We will not be silenced by false accusations and attempts to discredit our message.” It is time for the ADL to listen to the voices of those who are fighting for justice and equality, rather than silencing them.

In conclusion, the recent controversy surrounding Greenblatt’s accusations against graduating students and Hasan Piker is a clear example of the ADL’s failure to live up to its mission of fighting against hate and discrimination. Instead of silencing and attacking those who speak out against injustice, the ADL should be standing in solidarity with them. It is time for the ADL to reassess its actions and truly work towards creating a world free of hate and discrimination for all communities.
