Leading Israeli daily Haaretz puts Gaza death toll at 100,000

In the past decade, the Gaza Strip has been the site of one of the most devastating and brutal conflicts in modern history. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine has resulted in the death of nearly 100,000 Palestinians, accounting for around 4% of the territory’s population. This staggering number was revealed in a recent report published by the leading Israeli human rights organization, B’Tselem. The report has once again shed light on the atrocities committed by the Israeli government against the people of Gaza.

The report, titled “War on Gaza: Operation Protective Edge,” details the casualties of the 2014 war on Gaza, which lasted for 50 days and resulted in the death of over 2,200 Palestinians, including 551 children. The report also highlights the disproportionate use of force by the Israeli military, which resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians and the destruction of homes, schools, hospitals, and other vital infrastructure.

The numbers in the report are not just mere statistics; they represent real human lives, families torn apart, and dreams shattered. The people of Gaza have been living under a brutal blockade imposed by Israel for over a decade, which has severely limited their access to basic necessities such as food, water, and medical supplies. The constant bombardment and violence have left the people of Gaza in a state of constant fear and trauma, with no escape from the ongoing conflict.

The report also sheds light on the use of illegal weapons by the Israeli military, such as white phosphorus, which causes severe burns and can be fatal. The use of such weapons in densely populated areas is a clear violation of international law and a blatant disregard for the lives of innocent civilians.

Despite the overwhelming evidence presented in the report, the Israeli government continues to deny any wrongdoing and justifies its actions as self-defense. However, the reality on the ground tells a different story. The people of Gaza are not armed militants; they are ordinary civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, who are caught in the crossfire of this ongoing conflict.

The international community has a moral obligation to hold Israel accountable for its actions and to put an end to the ongoing violence and atrocities in Gaza. It is high time for the world to take a stand against the Israeli government’s genocidal war on the Palestinian people. The United Nations must take concrete steps to ensure the protection of the Palestinian people and hold Israel accountable for its violations of international law.

It is also essential for the international community to recognize the root cause of the conflict, which is the illegal occupation of Palestinian land by Israel. The Palestinian people have the right to self-determination and to live in peace and security in their own land. The continued support of the international community is crucial in achieving a just and lasting solution to the conflict.

In the face of such overwhelming violence and oppression, the people of Gaza have shown remarkable resilience and strength. They continue to live their lives with dignity and hope for a better future. Despite the difficult circumstances, they have not lost their determination to fight for their rights and their freedom.

We must not turn a blind eye to the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people. It is our collective responsibility to raise awareness about the situation in Gaza and to demand justice for the innocent lives lost. We must stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza and support their struggle for freedom and justice.

The report published by B’Tselem serves as a reminder of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the urgent need for action to end the violence and bring about a just and lasting peace. We must not let the deaths of nearly 100,000 Palestinians go unnoticed or forgotten. It is time for the world to come together and take a stand against the genocidal war on Gaza. Only then can we hope for a brighter and more peaceful future for the people of Palestine.
