The Trump–Netanyahu Gaza Peace Deal Promises Indefinite Occupation

The recent announcement of a peace deal between the United States and Israel has sparked a wave of hope and optimism for the future of the Middle East. However, upon closer examination, it becomes clear that this deal is not a true peace agreement, but rather a continuation of the occupation, and in many ways, a continuation of the war by other means.

The Trump-Netanyahu Gaza Peace Deal, as it has been dubbed, promises to bring an end to the decades-long conflict between Israel and Palestine. It proposes a two-state solution, with Israel retaining control over all of Jerusalem and the majority of the West Bank, while Palestine would be given limited sovereignty over a fragmented and non-contiguous territory. This deal has been hailed as a breakthrough and a step towards peace, but in reality, it is a blatant disregard for the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.

The first and most glaring issue with this deal is the fact that it completely ignores the voices and desires of the Palestinian people. The deal was negotiated without any input from the Palestinian leadership, and it fails to address the core issues that have been at the heart of the conflict for decades. The right to self-determination and the return of Palestinian refugees are completely disregarded in this deal, which essentially means that the Palestinian people are being denied their basic human rights.

Furthermore, the deal does not address the issue of illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which have been a major obstacle to peace and a violation of international law. These settlements have been built on Palestinian land, and their expansion has only intensified in recent years. By not addressing this issue, the deal essentially gives Israel a green light to continue its illegal annexation of Palestinian land.

In addition, the deal does nothing to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the Israeli blockade has caused immense suffering for the Palestinian people. The people of Gaza have been living under a brutal siege for over a decade, with limited access to basic necessities such as food, water, and electricity. The deal does not offer any relief or solution to this crisis, and in fact, it could potentially worsen the situation by allowing Israel to maintain control over Gaza’s borders.

It is also worth noting that this deal was negotiated by two leaders who are facing serious legal troubles in their respective countries. President Trump is currently facing impeachment proceedings, while Prime Minister Netanyahu has been indicted on corruption charges. It is highly questionable whether these leaders have the legitimacy and credibility to negotiate a peace deal that will have such far-reaching consequences.

Moreover, the timing of this deal is highly suspicious. It comes just a few months before the Israeli elections, in which Netanyahu is facing a tough challenge from his political opponents. Many see this deal as a political move to boost Netanyahu’s chances of winning the election, rather than a genuine effort to bring peace to the region.

In conclusion, the Trump-Netanyahu Gaza Peace Deal is not a true peace agreement, but rather a continuation of the occupation and the war by other means. It fails to address the core issues of the conflict, disregards the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people, and could potentially worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. It is a deal that was negotiated without any input from the Palestinian leadership and by leaders who are facing serious legal troubles. It is clear that this deal is not a step towards peace, but rather a step towards indefinite occupation and continued suffering for the Palestinian people.
