Trump Calls Cartel Members “Terrorists.” They’re Armed With Bullets From a U.S. Army Factory.

In recent years, the issue of drug trafficking and violence in Mexico has been a hot topic in the United States. President Trump has repeatedly blamed Mexico for the flow of drugs into the U.S., but what he fails to acknowledge is the role that the U.S. plays in fueling this crisis. While the president points fingers at our southern neighbor, the truth is that the flow of guns from the U.S. into Mexico is displacing and endangering the lives of innocent people.

It is no secret that the U.S. has a gun problem. With lax gun laws and a thriving gun industry, it is no surprise that the U.S. is the main source of illegal guns in Mexico. In fact, a recent investigation by The Intercept revealed that many of the guns used by Mexican drug cartels are actually manufactured in a U.S. Army factory. These guns, which are meant to be used by the military, are ending up in the hands of dangerous criminals.

The fact that these guns are being used by drug cartels is not a new revelation. In 2011, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) launched an operation called “Fast and Furious” in an attempt to track the flow of guns from the U.S. into Mexico. However, the operation backfired and ended up supplying thousands of guns to the cartels. This not only put the lives of innocent Mexicans at risk, but also U.S. law enforcement agents who were trying to combat the drug trade.

The consequences of this flow of guns into Mexico are devastating. The Mexican government estimates that around 70% of the guns used in violent crimes in Mexico come from the U.S. This has led to a rise in violence and displacement in Mexico, as drug cartels use these weapons to intimidate and control communities. Innocent civilians are caught in the crossfire, forced to flee their homes and leave behind everything they know.

But instead of acknowledging the role that the U.S. plays in this crisis, President Trump has chosen to label members of drug cartels as “terrorists”. This rhetoric not only demonizes an entire group of people, but also ignores the root cause of the problem. By labeling them as terrorists, the president is justifying the use of military force against these groups, which will only lead to more violence and displacement.

It is time for the U.S. to take responsibility for its role in fueling the drug trade and violence in Mexico. We cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the fact that our lax gun laws and thriving gun industry are contributing to the crisis. It is time for stricter gun control measures and for the U.S. to take accountability for the guns that end up in the hands of criminals.

Furthermore, the U.S. must also address the root causes of the drug trade, such as poverty and lack of opportunities in Mexico. Instead of building walls and demonizing our neighbors, we should be working together to find solutions that benefit both countries. This includes addressing the demand for drugs in the U.S. and providing aid and support to Mexico to combat the drug trade.

In conclusion, it is time for the U.S. to take a hard look at its own actions and their consequences. Blaming Mexico for the flow of drugs into the U.S. while ignoring the flow of guns from the U.S. into Mexico is not only hypocritical, but also dangerous. We must work together to find solutions that address the root causes of the drug trade and violence, instead of perpetuating a cycle of blame and violence. It is time for the U.S. to take responsibility and be a part of the solution, rather than contributing to the problem.
