Trump’s Gaza Ceasefire Deal Is Already Failing Palestinians

As the dust settles in Gaza after weeks of violence and unrest, the world watches with bated breath as a ceasefire deal brokered by the United States comes into effect. While many hope for a lasting peace, others remain skeptical, questioning whether this deal truly has the potential to bring an end to the decades-long conflict between Israel and Palestine.

One of the most vocal critics of the ceasefire deal is James Zogby, founder and president of the Arab American Institute. In an interview with The Intercept, Zogby expressed his concerns about the deal, stating that “Trump’s approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been one-sided and biased towards Israel. This deal is no different.” Zogby believes that the deal does not address the root causes of the conflict and instead only serves to further entrench Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.

Similarly, Jonah Valdez, a researcher at Human Rights Watch, also has reservations about the ceasefire deal. In an interview with The Intercept, Valdez cautioned that “while a ceasefire is a step in the right direction, it is not a solution to the underlying issues at hand.” Valdez stressed the importance of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the need for a long-term plan for peace and stability in the region.

But amidst the skepticism and criticism, there are also voices of hope and optimism. Taqwa Ahmed Al-Wawi, a Palestinian writer and activist, shared her thoughts on the ceasefire deal and what it means for her people. In an emotional piece for The Intercept, Al-Wawi wrote, “For us, this ceasefire represents a glimmer of hope in an otherwise bleak reality. It gives us a chance to breathe, to mourn our losses, and to rebuild our shattered lives.”

Al-Wawi also expressed her fears about the future, stating that “while this ceasefire brings temporary relief, we know that it is not a lasting solution. We fear that once the world’s attention shifts, we will once again be left to suffer under Israel’s oppressive policies.” Al-Wawi’s sentiments are shared by many Palestinians who have seen countless ceasefire agreements come and go without any real progress towards peace.

The ceasefire deal, brokered by the Trump administration, has been met with mixed reactions from the international community. While some have praised the efforts to bring an end to the violence, others have criticized the one-sided approach and lack of consultation with Palestinian leaders. However, regardless of one’s stance on the deal, it is clear that the ultimate goal of any ceasefire should be to bring lasting peace and stability to the region.

In order for this ceasefire to succeed, it must address the root causes of the conflict and address the needs and concerns of both Israelis and Palestinians. This includes addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, lifting the blockade, and finding a just solution for Palestinian refugees. It also requires meaningful dialogue and negotiation between both parties, rather than unilateral actions imposed by one side.

Furthermore, the international community must play a more active role in ensuring the success of this ceasefire. The United Nations and other world powers must hold Israel accountable for its actions and push for a just and lasting resolution to the conflict. As Zogby stated, “The US cannot be an honest broker in this conflict if it continues to blindly support Israel’s actions without holding it accountable for its violations of international law.”

In conclusion, while the ceasefire deal may bring temporary relief to the people of Gaza, it is not a long-term solution to the conflict. It is up to the international community to push for a just resolution that addresses the root causes of the conflict and ensures the rights and dignity of both Israelis and Palestinians. As Al-Wawi wrote, “We deserve a future free from violence and oppression, and we will continue to fight for it until we achieve it.” Let us hope that this ceasefire is a step towards that future.
