David Brooks Is the Last Person We Should Be Listening to Right Now
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In the wake of the 2020 US presidential election, there has been a growing movement against the Trump administration. People from all walks of life have taken to the streets, social media, and other platforms to voice their opposition to the policies and actions of the current administration. This mass movement is essential in holding those in power accountable and fighting for a better future for all Americans. However, in this critical moment, it is important to be discerning about who we listen to and take advice from. And one person we should definitely not be listening to is David Brooks.

David Brooks, a conservative columnist for The New York Times, has been a vocal supporter of the Iraq War and other disastrous policies of the Bush administration. He has consistently been on the wrong side of history, advocating for policies that have caused harm and suffering to countless individuals and communities. And yet, in the midst of this mass movement against the Trump administration, he has once again inserted himself into the conversation, offering his opinions and advice on how to move forward. But let’s be clear: David Brooks is the last person we should be listening to right now.

First and foremost, Brooks’ track record speaks for itself. He has been consistently wrong on major issues, from the Iraq War to the financial crisis. He has shown a complete lack of understanding of the struggles and realities of everyday Americans, instead choosing to align himself with the wealthy and powerful. His opinions and advice are not rooted in facts or empathy, but rather in his own personal biases and agenda. And in a time when we need strong and informed leadership, Brooks is simply not the person we should turn to.

Furthermore, Brooks’ recent columns have been nothing but divisive and harmful. In one piece, he argued that the mass movement against the Trump administration is driven by “hatred” and “resentment.” This is not only a gross mischaracterization of the movement, but it also serves to delegitimize the very real concerns and grievances of those who are standing up against the current administration. Brooks’ attempts to paint the movement as irrational and driven by emotions only serve to further divide us at a time when we need unity and solidarity.

But perhaps the most concerning aspect of Brooks’ recent columns is his call for a “national unity government” to address the current political divide. This is a dangerous and misguided idea that would only serve to maintain the status quo and silence the voices of those who have been marginalized and oppressed. A unity government would not address the root causes of the current political climate, but rather sweep them under the rug in the name of “unity.” This is not the time for complacency and compromise, but for bold and transformative change.

In contrast, the mass movement against the Trump administration is a powerful force for change. It is made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds, united in their desire for a better future for all. This movement is not driven by hatred or resentment, but by a deep love for our country and a commitment to justice and equality. It is a movement that recognizes the interconnectedness of all issues and is fighting for a more just and equitable society for all.

So, as we continue to push for change and hold those in power accountable, let us not be swayed by the words of someone like David Brooks. Let us instead listen to the voices of those who have been on the frontlines of the fight for justice and equality. Let us amplify the voices of marginalized communities and work towards a future where everyone’s rights and dignity are respected. And let us remember that in this critical moment, the last person we should be listening to is David Brooks.
