Welcome to the Jade Helm Presidency: How Conservatives Have Embraced Federal Power

In the not-so-distant past, conservatives were up in arms about a supposed federal plot to invade their communities and suppress their rights. The infamous Jade Helm military exercise, which took place in several states in 2015, was met with widespread panic and conspiracy theories. Fast forward to today, and these same conservatives are now cheering on the federal government and its use of power. How did this shift occur? And what does it say about the current state of conservatism in America?

First, let’s take a trip back to 2015. The Jade Helm military exercise, which was designed to train U.S. Special Operations forces in unconventional warfare, sparked fear and paranoia among many conservatives. Some believed it was a cover for a government takeover, while others feared it was a precursor to martial law. Texas Governor Greg Abbott even ordered the Texas State Guard to monitor the exercise, citing concerns from constituents. The hysteria reached such a level that the Pentagon had to issue a statement assuring the public that the exercise posed no threat to their rights or safety.

So why were conservatives so afraid of this military exercise? The answer lies in their deep-seated distrust of the federal government. Many conservatives, especially those in rural areas, have long felt that the federal government is encroaching on their way of life and infringing on their rights. They see the government as a threat to their individual liberties and view any increase in federal power as a direct attack on their values.

Fast forward to the present day, and we see a complete reversal of this sentiment. Conservatives who once feared federal power are now embracing it. This is most evident in their unwavering support for President Trump and his administration. Despite his many actions that expand the powers of the federal government, such as declaring a national emergency to fund a border wall and deploying federal agents to quell protests, conservatives have remained steadfast in their support. In fact, they often cheer on these actions, applauding Trump for taking a strong stance against what they perceive as liberal threats to their way of life.

This shift in attitude can be attributed to a few key factors. First, the election of President Trump has emboldened many conservatives who feel like they finally have a leader who shares their beliefs and will fight for their interests. This has created a sense of solidarity and loyalty to the administration, leading conservatives to overlook any actions that may have once been seen as an overreach of federal power.

Second, the rise of the far-right and the alt-right has also played a role in this change. These groups, which have gained more visibility and influence in recent years, have a strong authoritarian streak and believe in a strong central government. This aligns with their desire for a white, Christian, and traditionalist America, and they see Trump as their champion in achieving this goal.

Lastly, the fear-mongering and misinformation that has become prevalent in conservative media has also played a significant role in this shift. Many conservative news outlets and personalities have been quick to stoke fears of a liberal takeover and perpetuate conspiracy theories. This constant bombardment of information has created a climate of fear and mistrust, making it easier for conservatives to justify and even celebrate the use of federal power.

So what does this all mean for the state of conservatism in America? It is clear that the once deeply held principles of limited government and individual freedom have taken a backseat to loyalty to the current administration and its use of federal power. This is a dangerous precedent to set and goes against the very foundations of conservative ideology.

Furthermore, this blind support for federal power has opened the door for potential abuses of power and erosion of civil liberties. If conservatives are willing to turn a blind eye to actions that they once feared, what other principles are they willing to compromise for the sake of political expediency?

In conclusion, the shift in conservative attitudes towards federal power is a concerning trend that should not be ignored. The fear and paranoia that once drove them to resist government overreach has been replaced with a blind allegiance to those in power. As we move forward, it is crucial to remember the importance of holding our leaders accountable and standing up for our principles, even if it means pushing back against those we once supported. Welcome to the Jade Helm Presidency – a time where conservatives have embraced federal power, but at what cost?
