Marco Rubio Is Attacking American Education. International Students Are His Pawns.

The Trump administration’s approach towards higher education has been nothing short of disastrous. In a move that can only be described as short-sighted and misguided, the administration has proposed a series of policies that will not only harm our education system but will also damage our economy and global standing. At the center of this destructive agenda is Senator Marco Rubio, who has been pushing for policies that will only serve to undermine the very foundations of our academic institutions.

One of the most alarming proposals put forth by Rubio is the restriction of foreign students enrolling in American universities. This move would not only limit the diversity and global perspective on our campuses, but it would also have a detrimental effect on our economy. According to the National Foundation for American Policy, international students contributed $39 billion to the US economy and supported over 450,000 jobs in the academic year 2019-2020. By turning away international students, we would be depriving our universities and communities of a significant source of revenue and employment opportunities.

What is even more concerning is the underlying motivation behind Rubio’s proposal – to harm our education system and weaken its impact on the world stage. By restricting the enrollment of international students, Rubio is playing directly into the hands of the Trump administration’s protectionist agenda. Their aim is to isolate our education system from the rest of the world, thereby limiting its influence and reach. This dangerous approach not only ignores the immense value that international students bring to our universities but also ignores the global interconnectedness of education and the importance of collaboration and cooperation in the academic world.

It’s not surprising that the Trump administration is promoting such damaging policies. After all, their track record on education has been abysmal. From cutting funding to public schools to proposing policies that will only benefit the wealthy, they have consistently demonstrated a lack of understanding of the role of education in our society. And now, they are using international students as pawns in their destructive game.

But let’s not forget that international students are not just a source of revenue for our universities. They also bring diversity, cultural exchange, and valuable perspectives to our campuses. They enrich the academic environment and contribute to a well-rounded education for all students. By restricting their enrollment, we would be depriving ourselves of the opportunity to learn from different cultures, traditions, and ideas.

Moreover, international students are often the best and brightest from their home countries. By coming to study in the United States, they are investing in their education and in our economy. They bring with them new skills and knowledge that can contribute to innovative research and advancements in their respective fields. In fact, many international students go on to become leaders in their fields, making valuable contributions to our society and economy.

It is also important to note that international students often face significant challenges when studying in a foreign country. These include adapting to a new culture, language barriers, and homesickness. However, despite these obstacles, they persevere and contribute to the academic community in remarkable ways. By proposing policies that would deter international students from coming to the US, Rubio is creating yet another barrier for these students to overcome, further jeopardizing their success and the benefits they bring to our country.

In the face of these harmful policies, it is crucial that we stand up for our education system and the international students who contribute to it. We must reject the Trump administration’s protectionist agenda and recognize the important role that international students play in our universities and our society. We must also hold our elected officials accountable for their actions and remind them that education is not just a commodity, but a fundamental pillar of our democracy.

We cannot afford to have a “destroyed” college system. It is our duty to protect and nurture our education system, not only for the sake of our own students but also for the betterment of our society and the world. Let us not allow Senator Rubio and the Trump administration to use international students as pawns in their misguided game. Our education system was built on the foundation of diversity, innovation, and collaboration, and that is exactly what we must continue to uphold – for the betterment of all.
